YouTuber Jake Paul reported to extreme backlash on social media after allegations he and his friends were looting and destroying property during protests in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Last night (Saturday, May 30), the YouTube star was live-streaming, and seen in videos, at a mall that was being robbed and damaged in Arizona. While Paul was not seen directly looting or damaging property, he is featured in many videos on social media and fans expressed their disappointment and disgust over him exploiting an important movement for internet clout and content.
Earlier today, Jake Paul took to Twitter to address the situation. "To be absolutely clear, neither I nor anyone in our group was engaged in any looting or vandalism," he wrote.
He continued, "I do not condone violence, looting or breaking the law; however, I understand the anger and frustration that led to the destruction that we witnessed and while it's not the answer, it's important that people see it and collectively figure out how to move forward in a healthy way. We are all doing the best we can to be helpful and raise awareness; this is not the time to attack each other, it's time to join together and evolve."
Paul and his YouTuber friends have a long history of exploiting situations for inappropriate content. While he may not have been caught on camera looting, one thing is for sure - he has lost A LOT of fans.
