Multicultural pop singer Emilia Pedersen dishes on new music, her Netflix film coming soon, and making music during the pandemic.

Emilia Pedersen is a half-Brazilian pop singer from Denmark. She currently resides in New York, where she has lived for the last 12 years. Not only is she a pop singer, but also has experience in modeling and acting. Pedersen has gained big popularity in Brazil and is now eager to break out into the U.S.

Back in December, she released her second single, "Missing Myself." The new track follows the successful hit single, “Skyline”, released earlier last year. With her dance-pop beats and alluring voice, her music is sure to make your favorite playlist.

She recently chatted with us about her music, upcoming Netflix film, and navigating music-making during the pandemic. See the full interview below.

You are a multicultural artist living in the big city. What has it been like navigating NY, especially during a pandemic?

"I was born in Denmark and am half Brazilian on my mother’s side and have lived in New York since I was seven. I absolutely love living in New York. I love that everyone is always busy and the rush that comes with living in such a busy city. It is also perfect in between Denmark and Brazil since it has snowy winters like back home in Denmark and beaches like in Brazil. I also love that it has so many different cultures and because of this, I can find Brazilian food in certain supermarkets and Danish foods too.

During the pandemic, it's difficult because I love to travel and have since I was little so that adjustment is hard but while staying at home I kept myself busy. I love to be busy and have things to do. I wrote a bunch of new songs that I can’t wait for you all to hear. I designed my clothing line which will be coming out in 2021. I filmed a bunch of music videos for my songs, and got back into a bunch of old hobbies I have always loved like knitting, painting, horseback riding, mixed martial arts, and I spent a lot of time with my family and my dog."

We love that! Speaking of, has the pandemic changed the way you work? If so, how?

"Yes, it was difficult adjusting at first but "Skyline" and "Missing Myself" were created in a completely new way than I was used to. Because we were all stuck in different parts of the world and unable to travel we created and finished these songs through video chatting. We brainstormed and wrote the songs over video chat and then when it came time to record the vocals we also did it over video chat. I recorded my vocals in my brother’s studio in our house while the team was on video chat listening in and checking levels and then we sent them over to them and they mixed the music in brazil and put it all together. It was a new way of working that I wasn’t used to and it made it a little difficult but we figured it out and the songs ended up being hits which is amazing."

Your new single “Missing Myself” is a hit in Brazil and we are obsessed! It is doing so well for a new artist. How did this song come to mind?

"We all got on video chat and brainstormed. We wanted to write about something people could relate to because I love making music people can identify with. We ended up creating this character and scenarios and then "Missing Myself" came. The song talks about heartbreak and personal growth and character development."

What has it been like trying to navigate the music industry in the United States compared to Brazil?

"I honestly haven’t noticed a big difference between the two."

Well, you currently have 65,000 monthly listeners on Spotify across the globe! What’s it like to have so many people listening to your music in countries around the world?

"I am so thankful for everyone’s support of my music and I am so beyond happy that people are liking it so much. It is so incredible that many people all over the world in so many different countries are loving it. To me, as someone who is multicultural, I am so happy that I am bringing so many people from all over the world together through the universal language of music."

What are your future career goals? Anyone you would LOVE to work with?

"My future career goals are to keep making music and movies that people love. In the music industry, I would love to work with Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber. In the film industry, I would love to work with Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie, Robert De Niro."

Any new music or an album we can expect soon?

"I have a film coming out on Netflix this year called “Diaries of an Exchange Student.” I am also in the process of releasing my EP of 5 songs, two are already out, “Skyline” and “Missing Myself.” I have another one coming out in February and after the EP is released I have a lot more music coming afterward. I also have a clothing line I have designed coming out in 2021 that I am very excited about."
