Interview with FabuRocks, one of the youngest and most popular female content creators in the gaming and streaming world.
FabuRocks is making waves as one of the youngest, popular female content creators online. She's earned titles like the Youngest Girl Gamer on Twitch and participated in events like the Youngest Variety Power of Young Hollywood. Despite her age, she's gained a huge following and secured partnerships often reserved for older creators, especially in gaming.
But there's more to FabuRocks' story than her online success. She's one of over six million kids diagnosed with ADHD. Instead of traditional therapy or medication, her family chose content creation as a daily way to cope with ADHD. It's become more than just a hobby—it's her way of navigating life with ADHD.
In this interview, FabuRocks shares her journey as a content creator and how ADHD shapes her experience online. She gives us a peek into the world of online entertainment and opens up about living with ADHD in today's world. Join us as we learn from her unique perspective—a young trailblazer in gaming, and a voice for neurodiversity online.
You’re one of the youngest, popular female content creators, including Youngest Girl Gamer on Twitch and the Youngest Variety Power of Young Hollywood Event Participant. How are you so ambitious at such a young age, and what do you think it is about you that makes viewers want to connect with you?
"Being so ambitious at my age is all about passion and purpose!
Living with ADHD has its challenges, no doubt about it. But you know what? I've learned to turn those challenges into opportunities. Gaming and content creation aren't just hobbies for me; they're my therapy. When I'm streaming or making content, I'm in my zone, fully focused and engaged. It's like my superpower!
Now, why do viewers connect with me? I think it's because I keep it real. I'm not afraid to show the highs and lows, the wins and fails. People appreciate authenticity, you know? Plus, I bring a unique perspective as a young female gamer in a predominantly male-dominated space. Representation matters, and I'm here to show that girls can slay in gaming too!
But most importantly, I think viewers connect with my energy and enthusiasm. I pour my heart and soul into everything I do, and I think that shines through. So, to all my FabuFam out there, thank you for supporting and believing in me! Let's keep chasing those dreams together!"
What made you want to get started in live-stream gaming on Twitch?
"I actually started live streaming when I was much younger on YouTube and have since streamed on Mixer, Facebook Gaming and now Twitch. Streaming is where I feel most myself, most focused, and part of my behavior therapy to deal with my ADHD on a daily basis. Besides, using streaming as a form of therapy, I have noticed that there aren’t many young female gamers like me, especially ones who were open about dealing with ADHD. I wanted to change that narrative. I wanted to show that gaming isn't just about skills or competition; it's about community, connection, and having fun! It's been an incredible journey, and I'm so grateful for every viewer, every chat message, and every moment we share together on stream."
You are also one of six million kids diagnosed with ADHD. How does social media and content creation relate to this in terms of therapy?
"Social media and content creation are more than just hobbies for me—they're therapeutic outlets that help me navigate life with ADHD in a positive way. They serve as therapeutic tools that enable me to manage my ADHD symptoms, express myself creatively, connect with others, and find fulfillment in my passions. It's not just about creating content; it's about harnessing the power of technology and creativity to navigate life with ADHD in a meaningful and positive way.
ADHD often comes with moments of hyperfocus, where I become deeply engrossed in activities I enjoy. When I'm creating content or engaging with my audience on social media, I tap into this hyperfocus in a productive way. It allows me to channel my energy into something constructive and fulfilling. Social media and content creation provide me with a sense of schedule and organization. Planning out my content, setting goals for myself, and sticking to a consistent posting schedule help me stay on track and manage my time effectively. Content creation allows me to unleash my creativity and share my unique perspective with the world. Whether it's through gaming videos, vlogs, or social media posts, I have a platform to express myself creatively and connect with others who appreciate my content. As someone with ADHD, connecting with like-minded individuals who share similar experiences can be incredibly empowering and comforting. Through social media, I've found a supportive community of fellow content creators and viewers who understand and embrace me for who I am. Creating content and engaging with my audience gives me a sense of purpose and accomplishment. When I see the positive impact my content has on others, whether it's bringing joy, laughter, or inspiration, it reinforces my sense of self-worth and motivates me to continue creating."
What is your favorite game to play/stream at the moment?
"This is always such a tough question for me to answer because there are so many amazing games out there. Right now, my go-to game for streaming and playing is Fortnite! It's an absolute blast, and there's always something new and exciting happening in the game. Did you know Fortnite is an excellent game for someone who has ADHD to play? Fortnite combines fast-paced action, varied gameplay modes, quick matches, sensory stimulation, and social interaction, making it an engaging and enjoyable game for anyone with ADHD."
Super interesting! So, what advice do you have for any kids who want to get started in streaming?
"If you're thinking about jumping into the streaming world, I've got some advice for you, and trust me, having family support is a game-changer! First things first, talk to your fam about your streaming dreams. Having their support and encouragement can make a world of difference. Plus, they might have some awesome ideas or even help you set up your streaming gear! Start small and simple. You don't need all the fancy equipment right away. Just grab what you have, whether it's a decent computer, a console, or even a smartphone, and start streaming your favorite games. Consistency is key, so try to stick to a regular streaming schedule. It helps your viewers know when to tune in and builds a loyal audience over time. Engage with your viewers and make them feel like part of the fam. Chat with them, ask for their opinions, and show them love. Trust me, building that connection is what makes streaming so special. Stay positive and keep learning. Streaming can be challenging at times, but don't be afraid to try new things, experiment with different formats, and keep improving your skills. So go ahead, hit that "Go Live" button, and let the streaming adventure begin!"
